Live Review: Ribongia takes grime to the jungle with 'We Run Tings'

Florence-born, Sydney-based producer Ribongia has released ''We Run Tings'. Infusing grime with tropical elements and a brighter sound.

Florence-born, Sydney-based producer Ribongia has released two new tracks as a part of forthcoming debut album one being the wonderfully bouncy and upbeat grime track, 'We Run Tings'. Infusing grime with his trademark jungle and tropical elements and a brighter sound, Ribongia is really pushing the envelope with this track.

'We Run Tings' is way brighter than most other grime songs. It still has deep bass but the song isn't drowning in it. The rhymes are still confident but not to the point where they feel aggressive. The track has this bounce that comes from it's grime and tropical influences, and these sounds get you moving. Featuring FOOTSIE, as well as samples of tribal choirs and even someone vocalising rhythm also feature in the track, amping up the texture and all make a lasting impression to the listener.

Ribongia shows a level of commitment to making his track interesting and making sure they are always evolving whatever genre they are in. This track subverts the knowledge a listen has of grime to create something unique in the scene and that demands respect.

Ribongia says, "'We Run Tings' is an ode to the the go getters. I wanted to take grime to somewhere lush and sunny"

Lush and sunny indeed. 'We Run Tings' comes as part of a double release, out now on October Records, with the track 'Rituals' being included to build up hype for his upcoming debut album. Ribongia said his debut album will be dropping sometime next year and we are really excited to hear what he has in store.
