Live Review: Let Yeo cool you down with 'Frost'

7 November 2016 | 12:36 pm | Jackson Langford

Yeo once again nails it with his latest single, 'Frost', a beautifully understated tune that creeps up on you with it's pop sensibilities.

Yeo has already had an absolutely blazing year. He dropped Ganbaru which was choc-full of bangers, but you can't put your ears past lead single 'Quiet Achiever' which demonstrated the producer's multi-talented, complex and adventurous approach to electronic music. Well, 2016 isn't over yet and nor is Yeo, sharing his latest new single 'Frost' - and boy is it a doozy.

While not as immediately thumping and hooky as 'Quiet Achiever', 'Frost' is beautifully understated while still showcasing the artist's fearlessness into diving head first. The chorus of the song is layered with staccato synths and a delectable riff.  Featuring drum work from bandmate Andrew Congues and mixed by Haxx at JoyLuck studios, the song is quintessential Yeo with his real knack for giving pop sensibility to an other-worldly track.

He says that the song is about “the extreme gravity you sometimes feel when there's an unresolved issue between you and your lover. You want to sort it out as soon as possible”.

Immediately determinable in the lyrics, he sings "It's the frost building upon my window / It's the cold making me wonder which way I should go / Maybe it's just something or nothing at all  / But I really need to see you tonight." His voice possesses this coolness and calmness but is still instilled with anxiety and uncertainty - a complex swirl of emotions that all of us can relate to. The track is refreshing and sensitive, but still remains a certified banger. Yeo's worth keeping your eye on.
