Live Review: Fresh Hex celebrates the 'Hi Life' with a Remix

4 November 2016 | 9:39 am | Lloyd Crackett

In honour of HI LIFE as Triple J’s Unearthed Artist of The Week, Sidechain’s own FRESH HEX has released a remix of Hi Life’s ‘When I get to the Club’.

SIDECHAINS surely is Sydney’s First Family of alt dance. It’s a niche title, sure, but that’s because Sidechains fill out their niche so well; being a collective that not only supports innovation but each other. The latest offering from the Sydney collective is by the party crew's own FRESH HEX has released a remix of fellow Sidechains' alumni Hi Life’s ‘When I Get To The Club.’

‘When I Get to the Club’ is already a sugar high in melodic form, yet Fresh Hex manages to pump it up, calling it his "1996 Sunrise." It sounds like it’d actually be best played before sunrise, when you need a little bit of faith to keep on going. With echoed vocals, a thick bassline and heavenly synths, Fresh Hex has managed to stamp his mark without faulting the original.

Fresh Hex even penned a little note to go along with the remix

“An homage to the decade of sunrise club music.

Rise to this remix as the sun does and hold your dearest close.

These are the best days, the Hi Life.

Share them with the lovers, the friends.

Love

Fresh Hex”

The remix comes in celebration of Hi Life taking out triple J Unearthed's Feature Artist Of The Week spot. Up-and-comers in their own right, the duo have been the recipients of some well-deserved #hype, and even detailed how a Hi Life gig goes down. Speaking with triple J, the duo said, “A Hi Life performance is a combination of tension, surprise and the thrill you experience from the moment of release. You'll feel our music viscerally and physically. You'll experience the full spectrum of human emotions, shared with your best friends and complete strangers. You'll have your expectations destroyed, rebuilt and reconfirmed. You'll hear sounds and textures that you've never heard before. And you'll never forget it."
