Live Review: Feel the sensual ode to denim with Fortunes. ‘501’s’

Fortunes. have gifted us with another round of their syrupy synths and vocal harmonies that coax the groove out of you. Sweet and sensual storytelling that could only come from a cheeky grin, "501’s" is self-described as ‘when the weather is hot and you see a hot guy and he looks real good in his jeans’. Opening with the line ‘Damn, that dude’s jeans look tight, I don’t mean skinny’ – you immediately get the point, 501’s captures the moment of lust for a stranger on a tram, bus or train, where you’ve got to bite your lip to keep yourself together.

Conor McCabe’s croons his sweet longing, harmonising about the harmony he wishes to achieve, it’s tongue in cheek, it’s sweet, it’s oh so convincing. By the end of the song you’ll be day-dreaming about being on a tram with some inexplicable man clad in jeans that fit so well you’ll want them to rent a space on your bedroom floor. Paired with Barnaby Matthews’ slick production, this track's an afternoon delight.

Fortunes. are a music duo comprised of Conor McCabe and Barnaby Matthews, both New Zealand-raised but Melbourne-based, the duo recently signed to tastemaker label, Future Classic. "501’s" is the first offering from their upcoming project that will be released in 2017.
