Live Review: Ascend with Woodes' star-studded single 'Rise'

24 October 2016 | 8:40 am | Lloyd Crackett

Woodes is synonymous with heavenly vocals and precise production – where Woodes would go next was anyone’s guess. But Woodes has chosen to rise.

Becoming an Australian staple, Woodes is synonymous with heavenly vocals and precise production – where Woodes would go next was anyone’s guess. And, once again, Woodes has not disappointed, as she has chosen to rise.

Off the back of all round praise for her previous single ‘The Thaw’, Woodes has pulled out all the stops with her latest release ‘Rise’, with collaboration on production with SIMON LAM (Nearly Ontario/half of Kllo) and an all star choir on backing vocals including: Alex Lahey, LANKS, Lupa J, Nirrimi, Abraham Tilbury, Edward Vanzet, Golden Vessel, Tommy Wilson, Juice Webster, Uncle Bobby, Jaysways and Batts.

‘Rise’ is a women’s soulful journey in which she gathers her strength and ascends. With lyrics like “And they say it might be witchcraft, When they saw her strength”, Woodes explores others' doubt, but she does not find this disarming. She surpasses the naysayers, ending the song with her support, her choir of friends and colleagues chanting “Rise up, she's going to, rise up, she starts to” which is repeated until it is known - Woodes is going to rise up.
