Live Review: SODF reworks Woodes' latest single "The Thaw"

17 September 2016 | 1:30 pm | Natalie Turner

Along with Lupa J and DNKR, SODF has stepped up for remix duties of Melbourne talent Woodes' latest single, "The Thaw".

Melbourne talent Woodes has so gracefully returned to the electronic airwaves with her latest single "The Thaw" and now, an accompanying remix EP compiled of some pretty groovy local and international artists.

One of the tracks has been remixed by Sydney house duo SODF, who’s throw-down-club vibes have been slightly toned down to create something a little more soft and gentle. Never thought we would see the day where a track could get you cutting shapes whilst simultaneously drifting you off to sleep; yet here we are!

It’s a delicious remix that creates tasteful, angelic techno with just the right amount of house sprinkled on top.

Woodes’ vocals are as dreamy as they are attentive, enabling SODF’s incorporated clap-synths and bass to flow into the song perfectly. Woodes’ original track isn’t completely unrecognisable, but subtly re-worked to emphasise a little rave-cave with the slow chorus build-ups and lyrical repetition.

You could say the original track and the remix are more twin siblings rather than acquaintances, both reflect off each other perfectly, one being slightly more eccentric than the other (but both just as beautiful).

The EP holds two other remixes, one by Australian producer Lupa J and German duo DNKR who both showcase an original take on Woodes' original track. If you were one of the many adoring fans of The Thaw or Woodes' previous track Daggers & Knives then this remix EP is definitely worth a listen!
