Live Review: Jack Colwell releases an EP like no other

31 August 2016 | 6:04 pm | Lauren Payne

If you're into the experimental and unexpected, Jack Colwells latest offering is definitely the EP for you.

Jack Colwell, who has just finished touring with Sarah Blasko, has released a new EP but it's nothing like what you would have expected.

The new EP, entitled When The World Explodes, has been in the making since 2015. Over the last year, Colwell sent out a selection of original tracks to some of his favourite musicians and producers. The resulting songs have been threaded together to create this extraordinary EP and features reworks by Marcus Whale, HEALTH, Fennesz, Rabit, Roly Porter and Ash Koosha.

You may be familiar with Colwell's debut single 'Don't Cry Those Tears', a track that has a very classic ambience and feels right at home amongst the experimental pop-rock label. The track was originally featured on Colwell's Only When Flooded Could I Let Go EP and appears again on this new offering, only this time with new industrial synths and dark noise added to give the song a whole new meaning thanks to HEALTH. The band are known for their dark and experimental music (that's probably an understatement), and they've really taken things into their own hand with this rework.

Along with three other new remixes, Colwell's latest EP leaves us wondering what on earth he's going to do next. When The World Explodes is out now and if you're into the experimental and unexpected, this is definitely the EP for you.

You can hear it for yourself now on iTunesSpotify and Apple Music.
