Live Review: Golden Vessel, a forest fire, and a drone bomb

When Golden Vessel delivers a remix, it’s never something simple. It’s an epic combination of remix, mash up and pure brilliance.

When Golden Vessel delivers a remix, it’s never something simple. It’s an epic combination of remix, mash up and pure brilliance. In another addition to his rapidly growing and impressive repertoire, Golden Vessel has combined James Blake, Bon Iver and Anohni in ways you never thought imaginable.

The tracks involved in this mash up are James Blake’s ‘I Need A Forest Fire’ featuring Bon Iver, and Anohni’s ‘Drone Bomb’. Golden Vessel seems to work with tracks he loves, and can feel magic from, rather than tracks that would be an obvious choice to blend together. The result itself is pretty magical though. The originals have lost none of their own, individual power, but the mash up takes each track to a new level.

Golden Vessel lists these two tracks as two of his favourites for the year. He also thinks they have a common theme, with the artists asking what would be considered disasters to mankind. The softness of ‘I Need a Forest Fire’ balances out the power and beat of ‘Drone Bomb’, creating a track that makes you feel like you should be on a mission. There is something dark about the mission, but you will also be saving mankind so don’t get too consumed by it.

It takes a certain kind of mind and talent to take songs and mash them together without losing the essence of the original, and creating a completely new and amazing track. Golden Vessel is a true genius, and this one needs your full attention.
