Live Review: BADBADNOTGOOD welcome Samuel T. Herring to the stunning, 'Time Moves Slow'

Canadian quartet, BADBADNOTGOOD have been incredibly busy touring and working with buddy-ing musicians since the 2014 release of their record, III. Finally announcing details of its follow-up, the 11-track suitcase has picked up Kaytranada, Colin Stetson (Arcade Fire) and Charlotte Day Wilson to join them on the ride.

Another voice you'll hear is Future Islands' frontman, Samuel T. Herring, as he takes you down a beautifully solemn road in, 'Time Moves Slow' - the first single of the forthcoming album, IV.

A petulant beat trajects us down the dark flight of stairs to the dusty underground showroom. There's half a glass of whiskey sour atop the piano, amongst a small lit up platform towards the back of the bar. Without a punter in sight, you soon recognise the crooning soul vocal occupying this tiny stage as the voice living inside of your head; as that dusky, film noir setting acts as the cushioning of your very mind.

Despite the lack of numbers that would otherwise fill the space for such a performance, the heavy floodlights forced upon this vocalist drive the force of a show that must go on. For what though? The ample reminder of the loneliness that ensues from a broken heart.

Through the slippery organ notes escaping the fingers of its player, sympathetic guitar harmonies, and a jazzy percussive arrangement so delicately handled against a bout of rejection emitted in the lyricism, Badbadnotgood's, 'Time Moves Slow' is simultaneously a call for escapism, as it is a promising shoulder to sink into when a self-deprecating moment of exhaling your woes is necessary.
