We Take You Through The By The Meadow 2016 Lineup

11 February 2016 | 12:05 pm | Tom Hutchins

How does the By The Meadow 2016 lineup weigh up to the Purple Sneakers patented lineup testing technology? Let's find out...

One of Victoria's most chilled boutique festivals, BY THE MEADOW, have come out of the bushes to announce the lineup for their inaugural lineup! Although we weren't there last year, we have it on good word it was just so. damn. chill.

With a brief mission statement consisting of "WE SCOURED THE AIRWAVES, WE CHECKED UNDER THE BED. GATHERED SOUNDS FROM FAR AND WIDE. A PERFECT SELECTION FOR EARS AND FOR EYES. CHIC TUNES, SPACE TO GROOVE. LEISURE & PLEASURE; BY THE MEADOW, 2016" The By The Meadow team claim to be offering something pretty special for round two, with an (almost) entirely Victorian lineup. But how does that weigh up to the Purple Sneakers patented lineup testing technology*? Let's find out with Editor, Tom Hutchins.

*It's where we cover most of the lineup with a sentence each. Not yet actually patented, but we're watching you Tone Deaf**.

**I legally have to say that Tone Deaf have never actually stolen our content. It's a joke guys.

The Harpoons - Victoria's pop-meets-late-night-club darlings, The Harpoons will make you swoon all night long; I promise.

The Ocean Party - Not usually the kind of stuff we cover on PS, but these dudes are the best 'band' I've seen from Aus in a long time; dreamy, intelligent, lo-fi pop.

Luke Howard - Ambient and classically composed creations; truly beautiful compositions from a brilliant and underrated artist.

LANKS - A really versatile and eclectic project from a great guy; it's as if folk was like "hey let's get real and be a genre that makes sense in 2016".

Planète - I don't know anyone else who creates 10 min downtempo electronica tracks constantly that still make me play them on repeat; listen to 'Altair' and you'll get it.

Crepes - Again, these dudes fall into the lo-fi spectrum, but it's clean, refined and ultra catchy, yet kinda melancholic at the same time.

Habits - Dark, loud, inspirational, industrial synth heavy creations; if they don't play at 5am, I don't know why they were booked.

Uncle Bobby -  Warped electronic-tinged pop and some weird psych tunes litter his material; perfect for this kind of festival.

Edward R - Weird disco tunes from a guy I've never heard of before now; I'm down with that.

IO - I couldn't come up with anything better than their own FB bio; "Blending harmonic bliss channelled from intergalactic space riding the silver thread connecting the infinite possibilities of the multiverse."

Couture - Remember I'lls? Nah me neither, fuck those guys. Couture is where it's at now. Long live Couture.
