Live Review: Louis Futon has remixed some Marian Hill beats just this 'One Time'

12 February 2016 | 12:13 pm | Madeline Kilby

Insert Louis Futon's remix of Marian Hill’s ‘One Time’, and things may just be changed forever.

LOUIS FUTON is the alter ego of Philly boy Tyler Minford. While normally thinking about legends from Philly, you think about The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Louis Futon presents your ears with a very different sound to Will Smith rapping.

Louis Futon had a massive 2015. He played Coachella. He also supported Odesza on their North American tour, and has now been signed to their label, Foreign Family. Refusing to be defined by one musical genre, you can begin to see exactly how he is catapulting forwards.

The original version of ‘One Time’ is the kind of jazz track that makes you think of a modern era, electronic, Chicago soundtrack. It’s kind of menacing in a Burlesque tease kind of way.

Louis Futon’s remix takes the track on a completely different journey. It gives it a very fun, playful kind of edge, playing on the lyrics “boy are you going to let me play one time”. The sax line of the original has been taken, and added to a harmony of instruments including a nice little touch of Xylophone, an instrument that is impossible to hate on.

This is just the start of what Louis Futon has on offer for 2016. Next up he is due to release some original work, which will be definitely something to look out for.
