Live Review: Freddie Norwood takes Catlips‘ ‘Silver Smoke’ down an eerie path

10 February 2016 | 10:00 am | Madeline Kilby

Freddie Norwood may not be a name known to you, but that is unlikely to stay that way after you cop a load of his remix of Catlips‘ ‘Silver Smoke’.

The music of CATLIPS should not be something new you are discovering as you read this given she played countless 2015 festivals and took life the balls. FREDDIE NORWOOD may not be a name known to you, but that is unlikely to stay that way after you cop a load of his remix of Catlips' ‘Silver Smoke’.

The truth is Freddie Norwood has actually done an awful lot of excellent things, he just seems to have a pretty quiet online persona and it is kind of hard to work out who the hell it is that creates these sounds. His apart of the Untzz 12” crew and has a somewhat soulful, somewhat funky, kinda 90’s house vibe to his tunes.

Catlips’ original track has a definite eerie kind of quality to it before opening up to something that has some sounds distinctly like an early 90’s video game. Freddie Norwood’s remix really brings out the euro-esque qualities of the track and turns it into more of a euro club anthem, with repetitive loops, a constant and reliable beat and some pretty smooth and deep synth sounds.

This remix of ‘Silver Smoke’ is something you want to hear in the wee hours when you still need a beat, but all you have left in you is an awkward sway.
