Live Review: Chiefs gets wonky on the ever-shifting 'Eleven'

22 January 2016 | 11:09 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Melbournes CHIEFS has been creating innovative brands of trap tunes for a while now, and he's injected 2016 with a wonky new one titled 'Eleven'.

I know what you're thinking. Trap is overrated, it's becoming the new EDM blah blah. That may be the case in some circles, but there are definitely a number of artists still taking trap to new heights and keeping the game on its feet.

CHIEFS is one of these artists. The Melbourne dude's been creating innovative brands of trappy, bass filled tunes for a while now, and he's injected 2016 with a wonky new take on trap in his new one 'Eleven'.

Featuring a syncopated rhythm that's echoed by a skatty bassline and some very warped-out synths, he's perfected the kind of messy electronica that sounds organised and hits hard too.

'Eleven' is just another reminder of the talent this guy has. Taking a sound and a genre that's ultimately becoming something other than what it used to be, and reminding us of its top qualities and shows us the potential it has.

My only issue is that I want more. Each time it ends, I re-click start because it's such a new and fresh perspective on something CHIEFS has become well established for.
