Live Review: Lower Spectrum 'Proxima' (Official Video)

14 December 2015 | 2:20 pm | Emma Jones

Perth producer Lower Spectrum blew us away with his latest single 'Proxima', and has done it all over again with the accompanying visuals.

Judging purely from the excellent song itself, we had our expectations set high for an equally excellent film clip to accompany LOWER SPECTRUM's 'Proxima'. However, perhaps they weren't high enough, as we are completely blown out of the water with the eagerly anticipated visuals that the Perth producer put out this week.

Set in a claustrophobic, underground labyrinth of tunnels, our protagonist navigates his way through the dystopian world which is actually quite unnerving. As the track progresses, so too does his desire to escape, and he finally convinces a girl to accompany him to the "outside". This is where things get really weird. The outside world is just as bad, if not worse, and things don't go to plan.

Finally, the girl decides it's too much, what with dead bodies washed up on the shore, and she returns to the tunnels, leaving our protagonist alone in the new, contaminated world. You could read into this in a lot of different ways, but the sheer visual element of it is what has us captivated. Stunningly filmed and put together, the clip does Lower Spectrum's 'Proxima' complete and total justice.

Up there with one of our favourite tracks of the year, 'Proxima' is exactly the kind of song an up-and-coming producer should be releasing as they head into the new year. As I said before, our expectations have been repeatedly surpassed with each and every move from this guy, so we can't wait to see what he does next!
