Artists to Watch in 2016: Charles Murdoch

23 December 2015 | 11:00 am | Emma Jones

Charles Murdoch has been kicking around for a few years now, but we are so excited to see what he's capable of now with a debut album under his belt.

It's been a long time coming, but we can't help but feel that one CHARLES MURDOCH is set for a huge year come 2016. The Future Classic signee has been biding his time, staggering releases over the last few years and honing his craft to finally bring out a debut album this year, and now things are looking big. Like, Flume big.

The Brisbane producer is a quiet type, seemingly keeping to himself between releases and letting his music take centrestage. In a time where just about everyone is a DJ of some sort, Charles retreated for an extended period of time. Murdoch loyalists remained positive and hopeful that something would come from this hiatus, and half way through the year, he rewarded them with new music, and news of an album on the way.

Over the year, he's played at SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASSBIGSOUND and OUTSIDEIN, as well as various Future Classic events both locally and overseas, all in the lead up to his highly anticipated release date. Making fans wait until almost the bitter end of the year, December 11 saw the release of his debut LP, Point in all it's melodic, pulsating, shimmering glory.

Featuring a rotating cast of heavy hitters for guest artists including Oscar Key SungWafiaTa-Ku and more, Point proved it was was well and truly worth the wait, and has laid down the foundation for Murdoch to truly take off in the year to come. It's refined, meticulous, considered and hugely enjoyable, and will hold the producer in extremely good stead as 2015 wraps up.

There isn't much word on future movements from the Brisbane producer, but judging from the overwhelmingly positive response he has received for Point, we feel like it really is all systems go for him. Finally, he looks set to achieve the recognition he so obviously deserves.
