Live Review: XXYYXX 'Red'

11 November 2015 | 2:00 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Aside from being quite inactive for the past few months, XXYYXX has actually been kinda busy. And the result is this one here titled 'Red'.

Aside from being quite inactive for the past few months, XXYYXX has actually been kinda busy. He's been producing music for Sydney gal Vanessa Elisha amongst other things, but hasn't put actual music out in a little bit.

But that changed today when the Floridian producer put out a new one. Titled 'Red', it's got a real hip-hop feel to it; bassy, accentuated and beat heavy. We've waited a while for it, but man it was worth the wait.

I love that this feels like a backing to a rap, but as the seconds roll on, it gets more and more into the production and you can straight away feel that it's a track entirely of its own, accentuated by little nuanced sound effects and a keen eye for what makes a crowd tingle.

XXYYXX isn't a stranger to innovative production, after all, that's basically what he's known for. Innovation, big bass and an apt feel for what's good and new.

'Red' encompasses all of this and so much more, but if this is any indication of where the producer's headed, we're so stoked to hear where this sound will take him.
