Live Review: Made In Paris 'Dancing In The Dark' EP

30 November 2015 | 11:00 am | Caitlin Medcalf

MADE IN PARIS is her name, and if being championed by the likes of Tiga, Danny Tenaglia and more isn't enough, she's about to blow you off your feet.

Motorik are possibly one of the most forward thinking collectives in the Aus music scene at the moment. Not only are they tech aficionados, but they're also tastemakers when it comes to bolstering a sound that has and will continue to reach international status.

Jenson Interceptor, The Finger Prince, CSMNT61 and more are part of this cool collective, but there's a new gal on the block. And she's one of their strongest recruits yet.

The Sydney based producer has just released her debut EP with Motorik last week, and it's definitely something else.

With a brand of tech that feels like it's taken years to develop, it's a wonder that this girl hasn't been running the traps for a very long time. Her take on techno is precise, dark, careful and best of all, plays homage to the classics whilst remaining entirely unique in her approach.

Dancing In The Dark is the name of the EP, and over the six tracks (three are remixes), we're thrown every single aspect of her sounds in a tight number of minutes.

The title track is beat heavy and tinged with a bassy-synth that would make your floor shake if you turned the volume only halfway. It's a dancefloor anthem to make you sweat, cry and shake at the same time, but the beauty of Made In Paris' sound is how restrained and well-tempered she's got it down to.

'Trust Me' is cymbals on cymbals until we get to a pulsing deep synth which plays as the focus point of this one. That is until the bouncy lasers come in and add an almost differential element to it.

It's rounded off with 'Defused', a huge amalgamation of beats, synths and a tech-sensibility that is let absolutely wild in this one. It's a slowburner, but it's worth the wait. You're fed a little more with each second, and it's time that really pushes this one along.

Made In Paris is not only an artist to look out for, but she's an incredible example of how talented some of Australia's underground musicians are.

Made In ParisDancing In The Dark EP is out now via Beatport, iTunes and all major online outlets.
