13 October 2015 | 10:56 am | Madeline Kilby

SUGAR MOUNTAIN turned heads in frantic, overwhelmed glee in January after it nailed the music/art/cultural void the day festival landscape has been feeling. The 2016 line up has just been announced and for anyone who missed out in 2015 get your shit together and land yourself a ticket as the capacity is limited and there will be tears for those who have to play along at home.

Once again located at The Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, the music and arts based line up boasts an array of local and international acts. On the music front we have the likes of Hot Chip, Empress of, Courtney Barnett, Alpine, Roland Tings, City Calm Down, Sampa the Great, Le1f, Pearls, Kelala, Kate Miller and Research & Development to name a few. Hot Chip needs no introduction, however they haven’t been on our shores in a while so it is exciting to see them back here. Roland Tings recently won some hearts and minds at Listen Out, Sampa the Great is well, great, and Kate Miller has managed to tap into, and arguably own, the dark and cut-throat world of Berlin’s techno scene – pretty amazing for both an Aussie and a female.

The arts and visuals line up is arguably even more likely to make you froth. First up there is Daniel Askill, the guy who created Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ and ‘Elastic Heart’ videos featuring that insane tween dancer from Dance Moms. The guy has also worked with Placebo, Paul McCartney, Dior and Smirnoff just to name-drop a few. Italian multi-media collective Fuse will be bringing their hypnotic digital work to the festival. There will also be local talent Nic Hamilton with his contrasts between nature, technology, natural and constructed environments combined with a love of electronic music, the list goes on.

The day will also feature Sensory, a multi-dimensional, collaborative, restaurant project. The food will be created by Bomba head chef Jesse Gerner, artists Tin & Ed will create the visual side of things and Cut Copy will be providing the sound. Hectic. But it gets better. Gerner has alluded to the idea of following clues to make it to your food so on top of all of this its an adventure as well!

Sugar Mountain will take place January 23, 2016 and tickets go on sale through Moshtix Monday October 19th at noon. Tickets will be $150, and for an additional $55 you can grab tickets to Sensory which to be perfectly honest sounds epic all on its own!
