Live Review: TALA ‘Enta Ayez (You Wish)’

1 October 2015 | 6:15 pm | Katie Rowley

TÃLÃ's brand new track ‘Enta Ayez (You Wish)’ is unlike anything you've listened to all day. All week. All month. Maybe…ever?

TÃLÃ has just revealed her brand new track ‘Enta Ayez (You Wish)’ and we guarantee you will not have listened to a track like this all day. All week. All month. Maybe…ever?

From the off the track grabs you by the cojones, swings you round its head like a lasso and sends you spinning into the stratosphere. Recorded in Cairo, ‘You Wish’ features Sadat & Alaa Fifty who are best known for their pioneering role as the founders of mahraganat – an Egyptian style of music that combines rap and traditional Sha’by street music.

It’s got a similar urban edge and industrial attitude as Mbongwana Star, Staff Benda Bilili and Die Antwoord. Along with TÃLÃ, this makes for four artists from vastly different areas of the continent that are all channeling the same raw urgency and meaning that makes for an arresting and thought provoking listen.

TÃLÃ has promised upcoming collaborations with Banks and Turkish artist Atiye very shortly, saying: “I love to collaborate; orchestrating MALIKA took me around the world working with some amazing producers, rappers, singers and instrumentalists from Turkey, Egypt, Korea and the US as well as the UK.”

‘You Wish’ is the 3rd track to be taken from her EP MALIKA which is due for release on 21st October via Columbia Records. With tracks on the album as forceful as ‘You Wish’ and others sporting titles like ‘Passport Pimpin’, the MALIKA project looks set to make an insistent impression.

Preorder MALIKA here and knock the socks off your well dressed guests at your next cheese and wine night.
