Live Review: Moonbase Commander 'Southpaw'

6 October 2015 | 12:28 pm | Tom Hutchins

Southpaw' is the 2nd single and title track from Moonbase Commander's upcoming EP; a grimy, bass heavy tune.

Last time we heard from Sydney producer MOONBASE COMMANDER, he was getting repped on Pitchfork for a colab with Cakes Da Killa Now he's back with a new solo single.

'Southpaw' is the 2nd single and title track from Moonbase Commander's upcoming EP; a grimy, bass heavy tune which perfectly showcases his talent not only working with rappers, but on instrumental songs too.

Trap beats are a plenty, but this isn't your stock trap bootleg, there is intricate and delicate layering here that build slowly to an epic climax. The sampling is killer, and when combined with that brooding structure, you have a incredibly dark banger. Nick Luke (aka MC) calls it a "fight song", but we also think it's perfect for late night clubbing, just before you hit that comedown.
