Live Review: GRRL PAL 'Suggest'

19 October 2015 | 2:18 pm | Emma Jones

GRRL PAL have celebrated their recent run of successful shows at BIGSOUND and Perth's Listen Out with perhaps their best song yet in the form of 'Suggest'.

Fresh off appearances at BIGSOUND and the Perth leg of Listen OutGRRL PAL have celebrated their recent run of good fortune with a brand new song, once again showing their newfound attention is very well deserved. Soft and playful but with a modern flair, their latest track 'Suggest' shows the duo delve even further into their newfound direction, sounding more refined than ever.

Warm and shimmering, delicate and smooth, the track is a little slower than their previous releases - but is nonetheless still a perfect little slice of electro pop. Although their earlier releases from this year could easily be likened to acts like Purity Ring, it sounds like GRRL PAL have been doing the hard yards to distance themselves from any obvious comparisons, and are now opting instead to forge their own path and sound - and they are pulling it off tremendously.

Relatively simplistic on the first listen, 'Suggest' is a big step forward in the Perth duo's back catalogue. Churning out quite a prolific output of tracks earlier this year, they painted a picture of themselves as a spritely and effervescent duo with upbeat and sugary sweet electro pop tracks, but 'Suggest' shows a different side to the pair.

Careful and considered, this is perhaps their best track yet in regards to originality and production, and it makes us incredibly excited to hear what they do next. We're not too sure when that will be, but we can only hope it will be really, really soon.
