Live Review: Foals x Honne ‘No Place Like Spanish Sahara’ (Golden Vessel Remix)

This one may take you a few minutes to get your head around, so if possible perhaps draw a diagram to keep up. Old mate GOLDEN VESSEL put together a bootleg remix of FOALS’ ‘Spanish Sahara’ a while back, then sort of forgot about it. Next minute Golden Vessel has a brain wave and mixes it with another favourite track of his, ‘No Place Like Home’ (ft. Jones) by HONNE and hey presto, we have ‘No Place Like Spanish Sahara’, the mashup king of 2015.

At five minutes and ten seconds ‘No Place Like Spanish Sahara’ is a long track that does perfect justice to both the originals and the talent of Golden Vessel. To know these tracks could blend to such magical perfection shows this guy must live and breathe beats.

The track is chill. It kind of fills you with a sense of wonderment, you feel like you could be standing at the bottom of a skyscraper in a busy city, then instantly transported to somewhere serene.

The tempo is kept by the influence of “Spanish Sahara’ and Foals front man Yannis Philippakis provides the leading vocals with his dreamy voice. The slower drive of the verses, and the more electronic influences come from the magic Honne and Jones put together that makes you think of home.

In conclusion, all hail this mashup. Get down on your hands and knees and pray Golden Vessel is going to keep churning such magic out.
