Live Review: Bly 'Superfluid'

20 October 2015 | 4:24 pm | Hannah Galvin

Sydney's Bly have released their impressive second single, 'Superfluid'.

Sydney duo, BLY flicked over their ridiculously attractive debut single, 'Rosey' to 2015 some five months ago. An addictive listen, the pressure amounted for the much wanted arrival of its follow up. Finally in our hot little hands, we're equally as impressed with their second single, 'Superfluid'.

Resounding a large, metallic horn, a change is seemingly underway in the life of, 'Superfluid'. This preceding role is incredibly symbolic both lyrically and aesthetically, as we soon learn of the tonal shift that lay dormant in, 'Rosey'.

Creating impact with rests and syncopated beats, the poetic lyricism of 'Superfluid' soon takes flight, emitted in short, soulful breaths from vocalist, Oliver Dibley. With bandmate, Benedict Carter practising idiosyncratic samples of soft and intangible murmurs, such trembling whispers weaved into the composition accomodate the forthcoming change in character that our verbal persona soon embraces.

Once a figure of distance, the encounter of an intimate affair cuts open the chest of this being, bleeding out vulnerability in every sense of the word. Engulfed in a bout of lust, our story-teller is motivated to chase the prospect, dangerously setting up for an emotional failure.

Eventually diving into a well of descending beats, shaved synths and broken vocals, it's unknown what has become of the situation, though can be decided by the audience as coherent lyrics briefly resurface before fading out altogether.

A tale so easily judged from the third party, yet potentially uncontrollable by those trapped in the experience, 'Superfluid' sheds light on the funny actions humans conduct as a result of love and lust.

'Superfluid' is the second single from Bly, and can be downloaded for free via their Soundcloud. Keep an eye out for news on their debut EP - it's in the works!
