Live Review: SOUNDCLOUD WRAP: Oshan

25 September 2015 | 11:49 am | Staff Writer

Oshan, aka Riley Wingfield, is currently on the way to become a big name in Australian electronic music. And that's worth talking about.

What do you do when there's already heaps of artists called Ocean? Name yourself OSHAN of course.

We kid, we kid - we're just taking the piss here; as Oshan, aka Riley Wingfield, is currently on the way to become a big name in Australian electronic music. And that's worth talking about. We recently said this of his latest single: "Oshan produces songs that can be described as ‘headphone music’ – songs with such hard and heavy bass, you want it as close to your ears as possible."

This kind of pop friendly bass music is becoming saturated very quickly in Aus, but with some clever sampling, a focus on strong groove driven songwriting and killer vocal interaction - Oshan has already developed a style that differs to the enormous amount of noise around the scene. We recently had a moment with Wingfield to get a playlist of his influencers - it's not surprising to see some heavyweights in there, yet it's quite varied.

Porter Robinson 'Sea Of Voices' (Galimatias Remix)

Everything Galimatias touches is 10/10. Amazing sounds.

Another gem from a new future classic group

A track of Polographia's new ep which I'm really liking, also a big sucker for plucked guitar.

Cosmo's Midnight 'Walk With Me'

Cosmo's Midnight's production/song writing is always so immaculate & inspiring.

Atlas Bound 'Landed On Mars'

These guys are my close friends and are killing it, There songwriting/production has come a long way in a short time and I'm so happy to see their music being appreciated by big numbers around the world.

I love how this song just builds and builds, i heard this for the first time when he performed it at splendour in the grass and ever since then I've been listening to a lot more of Shlohmo.

Kenton Slash Demon 'Harpe'

Really enjoy the textures that evolve throughout this track.

I love how different this is to anything else. George Maple's voice always seems to catch my attention.

Mura Masa 'Are U There'

Amazing track.
