Live Review: Nick Pes 'California'

2 September 2015 | 12:42 pm | Emma Gordon

A congratulations and thank you is in order for NICK PES, who has provided us with a dreamy, and hands down perfect summer chill EP titled 'California'

It's hard to imagine just how nerve wracking it would be for an artist when releasing your first official EP to the world. However, a congratulations and thank you is in order for Australian triple threat singer/songwriter/producer NICK PES, who has provided us with a dreamy, electronic, and hands down perfect summer chill song titled 'California'.

You may know Nick Pes from his other melody heavy, indie electronic tracks 'I Remember', and 'In Your Arms', that feature vocals by the man himself too. About four years ago, Nick also blessed our ears with his own cover version of Kylie Minogue's 'Come Into My World' a version that thanks to a combination of Pes' soulful, effortless and deep vocals could give Miss Minogue a run for her money (sorry Kylie).

Resembling similar songs created by house music producer Todd Terje, 'California' is the perfect blend of mellow sounds and catchy lyrics you would imagine yourself listening to on a warm summers day, by the pool, with a drink in hand, perhaps in California? (You see where I'm going with this). The EP has already received comments on SoundCloud from listeners who say it's a nostalgic tune that makes you reminiscent of 90's summer songs - and we couldn't agree more.

If 'California' is anything like what other pieces Pes has waiting to deliver to us, the future of his career, and our upcoming summer playlists are both looking brighter than ever. Have a listen.
