Live Review: Darcy Baylis 'Envelopes' (Official Video)

10 August 2015 | 11:50 am | Emma Jones

Melbourne singer and producer Darcy Baylis has truly outdone himself with his latest single 'Envelopes' and the slightly unnerving video to go along with it.

Melbourne singer/producer DARCY BAYLIS is quickly gaining momentum thanks to his emotional house music, and his latest single and accompanying video for 'Envelopes' looks set to see him skyrocket even higher.

The colourful tune is totally juxtaposed with the sterile, slow moving and uncomfortable visuals Baylis released this week. Building upon his work in his 2014 release How Can I Live?/Ecstasy, it's obvious Darcy has taken some time out for himself to work on what he's good at - creating fantastic house music with just a hint of sadness.

Quite minimal in his approach, it's his vocals that bring the track to life. Intended to make the listener uneasy and anxious, 'Envelopes' was written at a time when Baylis was feeling such emotions - which goes to show considering how unsettling it is. Although that is not a bad thing at all, considering how the unavoidable euphoria of house music is still at play, and Baylis expertly combines the emotions to become a very considering and unassuming song.

Teaming up with Melbourne's Ling Ang for the clip, 'Envelopes' is an exciting taste for what is still to come from Darcy Baylis. He is said to be dropping a new EP come September, and if this is anything to go by we are in for a real treat!
