We Take You Through The 2015 Paradise Music Festival Lineup

5 August 2015 | 9:56 am | Tom Hutchins

They say that the lineup has been curated in consideration of what reflects the Australian independent music scene, so let's see what they've come up with.

I'd like to start this article with full disclaimer that this is something I have done in the past with Paradise in conjunction with my other website We Talk, You Die. But as the editor of Purple Sneakers, it's my duty, nay my privilege, to take you through the 2015 PARADISE MUSIC FESTIVAL lineup once again.

For those who don't know how it works, I am going to walk you through another momentous Paradise lineup announcement, and somehow try to explain some of the standout acts using only one sentence. But this time I'll be collating some words from our own Purple Sneakers team to help me.

Paradise 2015 will unfold over the last weekend of November, taking place on November 27th, 28th and 29th at Lake Mountain Alpine Resort in Victoria. The organisers say that this years lineup has been curated in consideration of what best reflects the Australian independent music scene, so let's see what they've come up with...

MY DISCO - Legends of experimentation for over ten years, combining minimalism with genre bending song structures and powerful live shows - a very worthy headliner.

BLACK VANILLAA super group that came together to create experiences in some of the darkest, smallest, sweatiest rooms in Australia - guess that includes the top of a mountain now too.

KIRKIS - Infusing jazz with quirky electronic and 70’s style vocal harmonies... intergalactic jams that are exciting and intriguing upon first listen. It’s frenetic, but controlled.

CASSIUS SELECT - Another alter ego of Black Vanilla, which shows off fragmented beats over a shuffling UK basslines - it can seem quite confusing and disjointed on first listen, but this is precision production from one of our finest.

THE HARPOONS - The sweetest pop music you'll ever hear from the sweetest people you'll probably ever meet.

SMILE - Lo-Fi done Melbourne style, but with less references to commission housing and living on the dole as a 20 year old.

FRIENDSHIPSForever the most 'hektik' force in electronica, with a live AV show to actually die for, you will lose your mind and your hearing to the heaviest beats in the country.

TOTALLY MILD - Their vibe is totally mild, but their sound isn't - it's a blend of lo-fi instrumentation with silky pop melodies and super catchy harmonies.

CATLIPS - "It’s a pop-art sheen that has rendezvoused with vaporwave, and come out of the chrome tunnel looking like sweet, sweet PC music."

OSLOW - The kind of emotional pop-punk that everyone actually loves but refuses to acknowledge because they also like to rave.

JAALA - The band affectionately refer to their sound as a cathartic blend of jangly indie-rock, and proggy art-pop - and I'm cool with that.

NULLThe only producer I know with an EP that doubles as an electronics company, it's like Harvey Norman on acid - plus his genre-less electronica is a hauntingly beautiful club soundtrack.

HABITS - You may feel like you're back in the 80's listening to industrial-electro-pop when you see them - one of every Melbourne acts's faves, and will be your fave soon too.

ANDREI EREMINThe man behind every single god damn good record in Melbourne, FINALLY comes out from the shadows with his very own original material - this will be special.

0.1 - Who is this enigma?? Oh right, it's Kirkis - heavy industrial influenced electronica - a dense hostile force of synthesisers, drums & voice.

MARCUS WHALE - One part Collarbones, One part Black Vanilla, all parts great solo act - dark and personal pop music for those who need somewhere to get emotional.

AMATEUR DANCE - "The thing that we love so much about this solo artist is his ability to leave an emotional impact from only a few songs that don’t really facilitate a whole lot of audible traffic."

GOOD MORNING - With the sultry tones to the slow burning jangle guitar lines and warped piano melodies - these guys offer a romantic side to lo-fi - Like in that cute, but not actually sexy way.

ASDASFR BAWDThis kid is younger than you, and better at producing than you - he takes what he's learnt from classical training and uses it to make intelligent long-form club tracks.

THE COMPLETELY BOYS - "Late night jams that are a little more gentle than the sounds the previous DJ was dropping. Hypnotic, captivating and groove oriented, this is one of the more magical moments those in club culture"

Heaps of other legends are playing, but thanks to time restraints and the attention spans of readers, I'll have to leave it here - The rest of the bill is listed below:

LURCH & CHIEF

BLACK CAB

TIRED LION

DORSAL FINS

DARTS

STRICT FACE

CALE SEXTON

TINY LITTLE HOUSES

BROADWAY SOUNDS
