We Take You Through The 2015 Beyond The Valley Lineup

11 August 2015 | 5:53 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Can I summarise some of the acts we’re most excited for at Beyond The Valley in one sentence? Let’s see how I fare…

When deliberating how to spend your New Years, there’s always the inevitable split in your group. Some people want to do the city, some people want to go away, some people will ACTUALLY be away. But over the last few years, there’s been a sporadic array of killer festivals popping up out of the woodwork and into the New Years Eve slot.

We were pretty set on Falls (I mean with Foals, Bloc Party, Young Fathers and fkn Weird Al, how could you say no?), but with the release of the BEYOND THE VALLEY lineup, we’ve never been more divided on the topic.

Beyond The Valley will occur from Tuesday, December 29 to Thursday, January 1 at its new home at the Gippsland Parklands, about 90 minutes out from Melbourne.

Just from face value, you can tell that the organisers have thought long and hard about this lineup, as it reflects not only what’s good and big in Australia right now, but also what’s good and big overseas. Can I summarise some of the acts we’re most excited for in one sentence? Let’s see how I fare…

YUNG LEAN - S A D B O Y S 2001 Screen Shot 2015-08-11 at 3.20.58 pm

(but seriously, his super chill beats have contributed to so many subcultures emerging worldwide and he's actually a pretty serious instigator of modern culture)

JAMIE XX - Global frontrunner in terms of innovation and niche sounds, 'In Colour' broke my perception of electronic music.

RL GRIME - More than just a grimey name, his beats are guaranteed to make you feel absolutely filthy - expect mosh pits and drops to make you scream 'OHHHH' over to your mate with an rl defeated look on your face

TOUCH SENSITIVE - One of the game's longest players, his bass playing is absolutely out of this world

JOY. - With a stare that could slay and a sound to absolutely obliterate, she's come into her own over the last year with dreamy vocals, canyon-esque soundscapes and such extreme purpose

OSCAR KEY SUNG - I don't know if there's such a thing as 'art electronica' but his sound takes me through to a similar headspace that visual art does; critical, universally conscious and curious

TA-KU - Moody, atmospheric and quite orally pervasive, his sound is so hard to critically pinpoint I feel underqualified to comment

SNAKEHIPS - Unique and technical, there's more to their sound than presents itself at face value - sift and play on repeat and you shall receive

DOORLY - House music done right, I would champion him as one of the heavyweights

BOYS NOIZE - I remember listening to Boys Noize remixes when I was in like year 6 and he's still one of the most creative in the game, with skitz percussion, hard-hitting bass and a distinctness that makes his sound so unique

SET MO - Absolutely classic house music with an intimate dancefloor twist of funk

MIAMI HORROR - If summer were a person, there'd be four of them and they'd each be part of Miami Horror

TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS (DJ SET) - Not just a forward-thinking producer, but also a wildly skilled DJ that knows how to work a crowd

UV BOI - The nicest guy on the scene who contrastively throws out some of the meanest beats I've heard live - bouncy, eclectic and so upbeat, his music reflects his character
