Live Review: Sea Moya 'Slow Down'

11 August 2015 | 3:46 pm | Emma Jones

German trio Sea Moya might have only been around for six months, but with the two singles they now have under their belts they're definitely here to stay.

German trio SEA MOYA might not ring any bells just yet, but that is all about to change thanks to their latest song 'Slow Down'. If you're going to be introduced to them, let this be the track to do it. With it's psychedelic underlays, minimal and dark direction and eccentric flourishes, the trio - who have only been together for six months - demonstrate a serious and organic knack for songwriting, and something tells us they're only getting started.

Letting the beats take centre stage, the pulsating and groovy rhythm drives the track below a sea of noises and nonchalant vocals. The band themselves described the track as, "Like when you stand in Nepal in the Himalayas and look at huge snowy mountains with nice valleys in between and everything is just slow. You can calm down, take a break.” Just from the first listen, you can tell exactly what they mean.

Combining psychedelia with minimal electronica and eclectic rhythms is by no means a small feat, and Sea Moya have pulled it off tremendously. It gets even more trippy as it goes along, just as it gets even more dancefloor friendly. There is a lot going on in a seemingly minimalistic track, but it's one that gradually reveals itself on consecutive listens, making for an extremely enjoyable experience every time.

'Slow Down' is the second single from the trio, coming after their very successful debut 'Do Things'. There is no word yet on anything else coming from them, so this will have to do for now. Although we aren't complaining at all, we can't help but feel like this has just left us wanting more. Here's hoping they deliver again, and soon!
