Live Review: LUCIANBLOMKAMP 'From Afar'

20 August 2015 | 2:20 pm | Tom Hutchins

The emotive nature of LUCIANBLOMKAMP is there, but it's not drowned beneath everything, it's finally on show for the world.

It's only been a few days since the Good Manners crew announced they would be starting their own record label to coincide with the management, PR, events services they offer to local electronic artists. Makes sense, since they literally do everything else. The first of their releases will be from LUCIANBLOMKAMP - and here's the first taste.

'From Afar' is the first cut from LUCIANBLOMKAMP's second album. The yet-to-be named album is due in 2016 and as stated, it'll also be the inaugural release on the Good Manners label. It also comes off the back of a seriously impressive year for Lucian, where he released a debut album, got spots at Splendour In The Grass, BigSound and Melbourne Music Week; and won FBi's Northern Lights competition - which included a tour to Iceland and London.

Whilst his debut, Post-Nature kept itself very refrained, opting for minimalistic song-writing and subdued instrumentation - 'From Afar' already illustrates the differing style Lucian is aiming for on the second album. To put that simply, everything sounds fuller and all-encompassing.

Vocals from Blomkamp are further refined and sound clearer than ever before, which creates a more traditional song structure. And although dark in nature; with sharper synth lines, cleaner vocals, powerful bass and punchy percussion - there's more variance in the soundscape. The emotive nature of LUCIANBLOMKAMP is there, but it's not drowned beneath everything, it's finally on show for the world.

Watch for more news from LUCIANBLOMKAMP later this year, with his second album due in 2016 via Good Manners / Caroline Australia.
