Live Review: MAIA 'Long Lost One'

31 July 2015 | 2:16 pm | Emma Jones

Brisbane's best kept secret, MAIA, releases yet another totally sublime track in the form of 'Long Lost One' - a lo-fi dream that shows just how good she is

If you read Purple Sneakers at all, it should come as no surprise we fancy ourselves more than a bit of dreamy lo-fi. So, it should also come as no surprise then that we lost our collective minds when we heard the latest track from Brisbane's best kept secret, MAIA. Titled 'Long Lost One', MAIA shows once again she is not one to sleep on and that her songs are more than worth the agonising wait between releases.

Totally sublime, she bends time and space with her silky smooth voice and intergalactic beats. With a groovy drum line, just enough bass and swirling synth sounds, the track intertwines to swell into something extraordinary. In a time where genres are almost oversaturated with electronic infusions, MAIA not only stands out from the rest but shows them how it's done with 'Long Lost One'.

Her vulnerable and intimate lyrics are delivered effortlessly with her smoky voice. Her production of her own beats is expertly done, and would be making more than a few other producers a little nervous. Her ability to cash in on her natural and organic talents to produce something so surreal and stunning is something to be marvelled at - there is just so much going on in this track, we could literally go on and on.

Although she likes to keep quiet, all signs are pointing to a mixtape being released in the hopefully near future. There are already five tracks up on her SoundCloud, and her Facebook page hints at more. We're just hoping it comes soon, but with tracks as good as 'Long Lost One', we don't mind waiting.
