Live Review: BUOY 'Close/Open'

15 July 2015 | 9:55 am | Emma Jones

BUOY is an artist to be extremely excited about, with the release of her debut EP 'Immersion' last week, and new single 'Close/Open', the only way is up!

It's no secret that Sydney's BUOY is one of the most exciting acts to emerge over the past few months, and the singles she has released so far stand to reason why. Her eclectic beats, the way her songs quickly deviate into an entirely new soundscape, her dreamy voice.

BUOY is definitely one to keep both eyes on, and her latest track 'Close/Open' is yet another example of just how much she has going on.

Delicate, glowing and serene, BUOY has outdone herself with 'Close/Open'. Comparisons to any of her contemporaries merely discredit BUOY's unique sounds, and diminish just how original and fresh she is. From the bubbling synths that open the song, to her cloud-like voice floating over the top of the shifting bed of beats she quickly concocts, 'Close/Open' is an extremely enjoyable listen from start to finish.

By utilising her penchant for a dynamic track, there are many different stages of her tracks that she quickly changes direction from and then returns to. Like bits of a few different songs combined together, it sounds messy until you hear the songs, then it all makes sense. Blending so many different elements, yet still holding so much intimate emotion in her music, BUOY shows she's got more than what it takes to really be something special.

'Close/Open' is taken from her debut EP Immersion, which dropped last week via October Records and is truly a testament to her obvious wealth of talent. We are expecting huge things from this girl, and we can't wait to see what she does next.
