Live Review: Elizabeth Rose 'Division'

9 June 2015 | 11:25 am | Madeline Kilby

It’s fair to say that Elizabeth Rose has tried to convey a message through both her lyrics and her sound.

It is safe to say marriage equality is one of the most contentious issues being debated in Australia at the minute. ELIZABETH ROSE’s latest release, ‘Division’, tackles this issue head on and takes your understanding of it to the next level.

What starts off as a seemingly simple piano based power ballad turns into a moving electro inspired instrumental piece filled with strong vocals showcasing Rose’s talent. Raw emotion is clear through both the lyrics in ‘Division’ and the feelings that begin to take hold as the track progresses.

'Division’ has moments that that make you feel like you are listening to a dance track, and at other times it evokes a feeling a little like having your insides stampeded by elephants. It’s fair to say that Elizabeth Rose has tried to convey a message through both her lyrics and her sound.

Rose’s inspiration behind this track is her increasing concern with the Australian government's choice to uphold laws that prevent marriage equality. With Ireland now allowing same-sex marriage this song comes at a time when Australia's backwards opinion on marriage is being highlighted internationally.

For the next two weeks ‘Division’ will be available on Rose’s website on a pay what you feel basis. All proceeds will go to Australian Marriage Equality (AME) to help them fight their battle.
