Live Review: PREMIERE: Netsuke 'Heliotrope' (Official Video)

18 May 2015 | 6:00 pm | Kirsty Marillier

Released via Illustrated Records, London based NETSUKE release the OFFICIAL VIDEO for their most recent single release 'HELIOTROPE'.

Via Illustrated Records, London based group NETSUKE, we're very pleased to PREMIERE the release of the official video for their most recent single 'HELIOTROPE'.

After supporting electronic big wigs like Gold Panda, the ever so talented trio behind Netsuke, Freya, Elias and Danny give us an eccentric, pop sound that is gloriously textured. Animated pop hooks, angelic vocals and bursting electronic tones make up 'Heliotrope'. A track that is the ultimate example how a group of artists can dedicate themselves to playing with sound and making it their own.

Originally from Sydney, these guys combine crunchy, industrial breaks with melodic guitars and emphatic male/female vocals to create pop-electro that is both dizzy and harmonious.

The video to be paired with the single was directed by John Paul Mc-Elwee and is a beautiful and nuanced glimpse at a young mans journey. The viewer follows as he quests through a forest (quite possibly in Sydney's own Blue Mountains), for a heliotrope flower in order resurrect some part of his diseased or lost partner.

The clip takes a turn about 3/4 of the way through,  after the man drinks a cup of tea brewed from the purple flower (which is suggested to bring her back.) We are transported into a surreal world of memory and dream that compliments the vibrant, all consuming nature of the track, marrying the world of swirly electronica and magic realism together.
