Live Review: Klo 'Make Me Wonder' (Live Performance)

12 May 2015 | 10:30 am | Tom Hutchins

Klo head back to where it all started by sharing a live performance video of EP track, ‘Make Me Wonder’.

It's pretty easy to track the trajectory for KLO. They dropped their first track last year, have moved from strength to strength very quickly, and they're most likely going to keep killing it deep into 2015.

Ahead of their first performances on UK soil at The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City festivals, as well as their own headline shows - annnnnnd a special appearance at Primavera Sounds Festival in Spain... (Whoa, let's take a break for a second and let that sink in)... The duo head back to where it all started by sharing a live performance video of EP track, ‘Make Me Wonder’.

The concept is simple, Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam, stand back to back in a well-lit warehouse, and smash out the track live. Even with its simplicity, it's still a super beautiful clip to watch and that's because of a couple of things.

Firstly, the team of Hamish Mitchell (Director), David McKinnar (Cinematographer) and Nicholas Keays (Videographer) have done a lot to keep things so simple that it allows the music to be the focus. The two framed clips operate to showcase how Klo's live performance plays out, and by keeping shots steady, and including plenty of close ups of the duo, it's impossible to be distracted by anything else that could be happening.

Secondly, as with his other project I'lls, Lam has taken the approach that band takes of manipulating the original in a live setting to allow for greater depth. By doing this, both Kaul and Lam bring in new nuances and subtleties that add so much.

Hear how a simple track has become something much more elaborate and why it's a mainstay of their live shows.

Klo's debut EP, Cusp, is now out in the UK via Year One Recordings. Australian's can grab it from Dot Dash.
