Live Review: Stephane 1993 'Saffron Smoke'

7 May 2015 | 1:13 pm | Emma Jones

Newcastle producer Stephane 1993 is now running with the big boys, releasing his latest track 'Saffron Smoke' through none other than BoysNoize Records.

We thought STEPHANE 1993 was making waves last year, but the way 2015 is looking for him - they were just mere ripples in comparison. Announcing a new track and upcoming EP, the Australian techno wizard really got mouths talking when he announced that it would all be released through arguably one of the biggest techno labels in the world - BoysNoize Records

Titled 'Saffron Smoke', Stephane 1993's new single is pretty self-explanatory for his recent good fortune. Relentless, fresh and forward thinking, Stephane manages to work in other genres that wouldn't necessarily occur too often in the techno realm.

Hip hop, bass, and even a bit of ghetto, 'Saffron Smoke' builds on what he was delivering in previous tracks like 'New Whip', where the bass and hip hop stylings were just as evident as the solid techno roots. It's these incorporations that keep Stephane 1993's sound above the rest - and why he's being heralded by some of the biggest names in the world.

Steve Aoki, the folks at BBC Radio 1, and of course BoysNoize Records are all touting Stephane 1993 and his techno blends, who also won the Triple J Unearthed comp to play at the Maitland leg of Groovin The Moo this year as well as playing at Mountain Sounds.

'Saffron Smoke' is the first track off his forthcoming EP, Holovision which drops May 25th. After that, it's anyone's guess just how far this Newcastle-producer can go!
