Live Review: Nicole Millar & Zuri Akoko Release Collaborative Covers EP

20 May 2015 | 10:27 am | Hannah Galvin

Sydney girls Nicole Millar and Zuri Akoko have come together to release this three track covers EP, before they drop their own original release.

Inspired by stories fuelling creative material in the fashion & music industries, FLING FLING are a visual collective forever seeking like-minded collaborators. Recently visiting the Sydney hometown of vocalist, NICOLE MILLAR and producer, ZURI AKOKO, a concoction of art, music and fashion was established in on frame, shedding light on the pair's collaborative covers EP.

Placing a heavy focus on male artists, the girls readapted the sounds of 50 Cent's, '21 Questions' and Shlohmo's, 'Bo Peep', as well as a rendition of Mya's, 'Like Wo'. Utilising hollow beats, ethereal sampling and chopped up components, Zuri Akoko's production technique marries up with Nicole Millar's vocals beautifully, as they've been executed in her distinctive airy style. Resulting in a weightless and smoothed out affair, these three reinterpretations have been exhaled with a splash of feminity and a dash of ambience for this prestigious pair to call their own.

Listen to the covers above and what the project means to the girls throughout this Fling Fling video, before the pair drop their original release together in the not too distant future!
