Live Review: Antony & Cleopatra 'Take Me'

21 May 2015 | 3:15 pm | Emma Jones

UK duo Antony & Cleopatra return with a stellar new track titled 'Take Me', paying homage to the past whilst looking forward.

Still coasting off the back of their stellar debut single, 'Sirens', ANTONY & CLEOPATRA have made sure everyone will know who they are now, with the release of their new track, 'Take Me'.

Drawing on influences from decades past, Antony & Cleopatra manage to rework 80's and 90's dance styles into their own modern flavour. 'Take Me' is once again an example of this, with an array of crisp beats, shimmering waves of synths and soulful, sassy vocals and deep house bass breakdowns.

What sounds like three or more tracks in one, Antony & Cleopatra control the chaos to create an unpredictable earworm. Tropical keys play over dark and deep bass, almost hip hop styled drumming is propped against the soulful vocals, swelling synths against huge cymbal crashes - there is so much going on, in the best possible way.

The duo said of their new track, "'Take Me' exists in the liminal space between remix and original, between 90s and future, between bass and rave. Antony & Cleopatra draw heavily on the traditions of UK dance music, and this track is at its heart a shout out to all of their favourite elements. Diva vocals, breakbeats and dark textures combine into a track out of time, forward thinking yet honouring of the past." From just one listen to this bad boy, you can hear exactly what they're talking about.

'Take Me' drops this week via Vitalic Noise, and I've got more than a good feeling we can expect to hear a lot more from these two!
