You may not have heard of IMUGI yet, but if the duo’s debut track ‘Dizzy’ is anything to go by they should be put straight onto your watch list.

You may not have heard of IMUGI yet, but if the duo’s debut track ‘Dizzy’ is anything to go by they should be put straight onto your watch list.

Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, Imugi are a promising newcomer to the scene and with only one track under their belt so far, it is exciting to see what direction they will take. ‘Dizzy’ goes into glorious synth-pop territory, with dreamy vocals that seem to be inspired by the likes of Banks and Grimes and a catchy, disco-sounding chorus that will make you want to put on a pair of skates and head down to the discothèque. The swirling synths and driving bass line are complemented by the lo-fi production, giving it a fun, but nostalgic feel. The beat is infectious and leaves you wanting to hit the replay button.

There is a certain carefree attitude that comes across in the groove and tone of this track and it sounds authentic, which will definitely play in Imugi’s favour as you cannot fake those things. It is hard not to find yourself tapping along to a song that sounds so light-hearted and, well, fun.
