Live Review: LA Priest 'Oino' (Official Video)

5 March 2015 | 11:50 pm | Emma Jones

Late Of The Pier frontman Sam Dust has released the first film clip for his solo project LA Priest's single 'Oino'

We recently touched on the debut single from LATE OF THE PIER frontman Sam Dust's solo project, LA PRIEST and the experimental funky jam Oino.

Now, he's given us some accompanying visuals to go along with it, and they are just as bizarre and captivating as you would expect to come from such a track!

Keeping in mind he has already linked up with producer EROL ALKAN - who has made a name for himself for doing things a little differently - and the direction of LA PRIEST makes a little more sense, by making not a lot of sense at all.

Demonstrating an array of influences and styles, this track is not unlike that of YEASAYER or even PRINCE, and is one of the more interesting tracks to come out of this young year. Bright vocals compliment the synth pop, but the blistering guitar solos shake things up along with the groovy percussion that's laid down. It's peculiar, but refreshingly different, and takes you on a journey with it's unpredictability.

Speaking of unpredictable, the recently released video clip follows along those lines, showing just how strange LA PRIEST is going to get with this project.

Bordering on absurdity, this is a hilariously entertaining clip that leaves you scratching your head as to what you've just seen. Aside from looking like it was set on Tatooine (nerdy Star Wars reference), the clip is filmed in some desert, and features Dust fighting against strange characters with his guitar as his only weapon. He also ascends a pyramid and grooves at the top at the end. Strange, but not really that surprising, this is definitely in the running for film clip of the year already!

Clearly set in the future, much like the music he makes, Oino and it's video clip are not only refreshing, but highlight Dust's ability to have controlled chaos in his work. The track is available now via London based independent label Domino, and has left us eagerly awaiting more!
