Live Review: Woodes x Elkkle ‘Muddy’

16 March 2015 | 5:44 pm | Katie Rowley

Melbourne singer songwriter Woodes entices us into her sonic dreamscape on latest track 'Muddy'.

Not too much is known about Melbourne singer songwriter Woodes, except for a collaboration on ‘Decisions’ with Atticus Beats last year which garnered a few interesting remixes.

‘Muddy’ picks up where ‘Decisions’ left off, utilising those same faint and dainty vocals and off beat clicks. The breathy sounds give way to a rush of cosy synths halfway through – it feels familiar, but Elkkle’s production ensures that the track is well layered and enticing.

The song remains reserved throughout; it verges on sparsity but is filled in with just enough trickles and tinkles of instrumentation to keep it feeling warm and welcoming. Woodes takes us into her dozy sonic dreamscape, like falling into bed and teetering on the edge of sleep and waking. Check out her tumblr to see the wistful visual influences that inform the strong cinematic quality of her sound.
