Live Review: Kucka 'Divinity' (Mazde Remix)

Berlin DJ MAZDE is hitting Australia shores this week, and has just dropped a new remix to make us even more excited about his arrival (as if that was possible). Remixing quirky Perth artist Kučka and her peculiar, eerie track 'Divinity'.

Mazde was the first signee to Stoney Roads' Record Label, so he already comes with a pretty reputable seal of approval. No stranger to remixing, this producer has reworked Disclosure, Odesza and SOHN, as well as releasing his own two-track EP, Shifted Thoughts.

What was once a bubbling, bass driven, sultry and inviting song has been stripped back and built up again, with Mazde shifting synths to drive the new version. Indicative of what his live shows will hold for audiences, this slow but intense number is packed with warm synth rises and booming bass.

Starting off with a few synth chords and Kučka samples, the track worms its way along, through bass drops and drum kicks. Waves of synth chords now with added reverb crash one after the other, as the track falls back before rising again, yet never deviating too far from the groove he's laid down. The bright, vibrant take on 'Divinity' takes the eerie, almost sinister original and thrusts it into new, technicolour territory.

Mazde will be starting his tour off in Adelaide this Friday, March 27th, before performing in Melbourne, Bathurst, Mona Vale and Sydney. He'll also be appearing at Rabbits Eat Lettuce in Woodfordia over the Easter long weekend alongside Opiou, Paces, Teebs and Human Movement. See full dates below!
