Live Review: Antony & Cleopatra ‘Sirens’

3 March 2015 | 1:40 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

London up and comers Antony & Cleopatra have just dropped their smooth new single 'Sirens'.

Not saying that the amount of likes accumulated by an artist is directly proportional to their worth, but how ANTONY & CLEOPATRA only have 112 fans on Facebook is beyond me.

Their incredibly seasoned approach to music reminds me a touch of CLIENT LIAISON, but I think this comparison is embedded more in the lyrics than anything.

The London / Aussie duo have been hard at work over the past year, fostering cool relationships with the likes of LANCELOT and BENI. These efforts have resulted in some fantastic collaborations, but has also seen opportunities for the duo to polish and release their own music.

Their latest single ‘Sirens’ is intensely gorgeous in its delivery. The split duet of vocals intensifies as the song progresses, and it’s the collectedness within the track that emits a professionalism from these two up and comers that you usually wouldn’t hear so early on.

It’s sultry, smooth and extremely sensual in its tones. I think it’s the sax line that brings it to an all time high, however. The kind of “bridge” in the track takes a break from the synth-laden back drop and forces it into new musical territory.

ANTONY & CLEOPATRA have created something gorgeous, timeless and one that can be played anywhere at anytime. ‘Sirens’ is new-age lounge with a citrus twist of sensuality and heightened hyperawareness.
