Live Review: ANKLKINS ‘R.O.Y’

24 March 2015 | 5:46 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Sydney based bedroom producer ANKLKINS is almost set to drop his debut EP, '3rd Dynasty'. He's just given us another taste of the EP in the form of 'R.O.Y'.

It’d be tough being a bedroom producer in this age. I feel like the competitiveness thanks to social media and the likes of SoundCloud have made the world a stage, regardless of whether or not you’re actually on a physical stage.

Sydney based bedroom producer Josh Beresford aka ANKLKINS (pron. ankle-kins) has been working hard on his forthcoming EP. The bedroom producer has got two killer projects going, one being the forward-thinking and ambience-steered sounds of Vegas Collie, and the other being the more deep house, club-vibey music of ANKLKINS.

He’s almost set to drop the ANKLKINS EP, 3rd Dynasty, but not without a few tastes.

The latest snippet we’ve been given is in the form of ‘R.O.Y’, an eclectic collection of genres, sounds and incredible vibes. It’s five and a half minutes of mish-mash and more than anything, actually evokes quite a lot of thought.

He’s managed to find space for a little bit of everything. Deep house, ambience, tiny bouts of drone, and even inklings of drum and bass seem to have made their way in there. It’s percussion heavy, steered by these warped bouts of bass and deep synths, and best of all, knows when to quit and when to ramp it up.

‘R.O.Y’ is extremely eclectic. Unique in its composure and essential in what it offers to the dance community, particularly in turn as it represents what it means to be a bedroom producer. ANKLKINS has set himself up for killer things with this, and I’m only more excited for the EP as the days go by.
