Live Review: I'lls 'Fifty-Phiphti' (Official Video)

25 February 2015 | 11:15 pm | Emma Jones

Melbourne trio I'lls have released the official clip for their hypnotic track 'Fifty-Phiphti', combining VHS footage with dancing silhouettes.

Melbourne three piece I'LLS are always ones to do things differently. Their flawless production has seen them rise to become one of the most exciting acts in the country, and their two track release last year was no different. Fifty-Phiphti/Asakusa are perfect examples of lush electronica; restrained and complex, with a lot of talent on display.

Released on their own record label, SOLITAIRE RECORDINGS, the two tracks are definitely their best work yet. The trio received a lot of Internet love, and now, with the release of the official clip for Fifty-Phiphti, they will undoubtedly see even more!

Fifty-Phiphti is a blissed out downtempo dance track that would make you dance not unlike the dancing seen in the accompanying clip. They have created a chilled soundscape featuring flurrying keys and crisp, clear beats that snap and deviate suddenly, sprouting off into multiple directions.

Combining VHS footage with digital and analogue backdrops, two silhouettes dance together in a way that hypnotizes you. The combination of the flickering backdrops with the slow-motion figures flailing and twisting allows you to become even more immersed in the track as it rises and falls in time with the movements.

I'LLS have hinted that a third EP is on the way, having openly discussed their transitioning into a more AV oriented project. Judging from the direction this video clip sees them heading in, we can certainly expect something different, but equally as brilliant from the three guys!
