Live Review: Sweet Valley & MNDR 'Dance 4 A Dollar'

3 February 2015 | 5:10 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

The Williams brothers AKA Sweet Valley have teamed up with MNDR for absolutely banger 'Dance 4 A Dollar'.

One of the coolest things to come out of the Nathan/Kynan Williams brothership is SWEET VALLEY.

You may know Nathan from teen punx surf rockers WAVVES or the more recent project of both brothers, SPIRIT CLUB. Kynan was in a group called D//WOLVES, but the group has unfortunately split since. Both are ultimately fuelled by bouts of NIRVANA-esque odes and separated by summers.

However, the two came together a few years ago for a completely different project.

SWEET VALLEY is the electronic production project of the two brothers, and it’s the coolest and most left-field collaboration to come out of any slacker rock family.

They’ve put out a few releases, most notably being the ‘Stay Calm’ EP back in 2013. It’s killer, and shows the other side of the music the Williams brothers are into.

Their latest single ‘Dance 4 A Dollar’ sees them teaming up with singer/songwriter MNDR.

It’s dark, it’s quite genre-defying and it’s murky in the way that it lurks in the depths of the underground Cali dance scene. It’s hip hop, but it’s house. It’s electronica, but it’s also RnB.

MNDR elevates the track to new heights with killer vocals and a huge apt for bringing a huge vibe.

SWEET VALLEY x MNDR is one of my favourite collaborations of the year so far, and it’s evidential that this relationship has been extremely beneficial in terms of the sound the legends have created.
