Live Review: Slum Sociable 'Anyway'

27 February 2015 | 4:41 pm | Hannah Galvin

Melbourne duo Slum Sociable have nailed their flair for contemporary jazz through their debut single, 'Anyway'.

There's something so ridiculously gorgeous when it comes to contemporising jazz music. Something that Melbourne duo SLUM SOCIABLE have absolutely nailed with their debut single, 'Anyway'.

A sporadic time signature and amorphous composition permeate, however it's the use of a beautiful harp that effortlessly takes your breath away as soon as 'Anyway' arrives. Grabbing a firm hold of our lifted hearts, this clever choice of instrument will have you instantly hooked, for it's flawless nature is a path we don't tend to cross that often.

A solidarity soon intruded upon, the density of 'Anyway' is quickly heightened by a light pitter-patter, a sorrowful piano line and the vocal capacity exploring and strengthening the wholesome lyricism at hand. As these components become paired with the unorthodox glitches and tweaks that continuously interject, 'Anyway' results in an abstract harmonious choir for the forward thinker.

As long as SLUM SOCIABLE are around, the concept of antiquation suffers.
