Live Review: Catlips To Release EP Through Pilerats & Drops ‘Fade’

11 February 2015 | 10:40 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Perth's CATLIPS has just announced that her EP will be put out through Pilerats. To celebrate, she's dropped the first single from the EP titled 'Casual'.

It’s been a huge 24 hours for Perth gal CATLIPS. She’s just announced that she’ll soon be putting out a new EP, 'Casual'. And that the EP will be put out through Pilerats. AND she’s dropped the first single from said EP.

The first taste of the EP is called ‘Fade’, and it definitely challenges the meaning of the word casual. Known for her eclectic beats and a visual aesthetic that smoothly matches the sound she encompasses, she’s no stranger to creation.

It’s a pop-art sheen that has rendezvoused with vapor-wave, and come out of the chrome tunnel looking like sweet, sweet PC music. But CATLIPS’ aesthetic doesn’t stop there. ‘Fade’ further heightens her intrinsic appeal, using synths to a degree that reminds me of a cool 80’s soundtrack to any club night.

The addition of a few vocal lines adds density and really makes you notice how she plays with the layers of the track. You know straight away when something is added and when something is subtracted. She’s careful with her production, and I think that’s what really sets her apart.

Aside from an incredibly well established aesthetic, look wise and sound wise, we’re super keen to hear what CATLIPS has to bring to 2015. And it’s only going to be uphill from here.
