Live Review: Shura 'Indecision' (Official Video)

21 January 2015 | 7:06 pm | Isabella T

UK's Shura debuts new track 'Indecision' a contemplative synthy pop output, with an equally entrancing and thoughtful video.

Pop music isn't a dirty word anymore. Whilst mainstream pop is taking their music in weirder and more explorative territory, on the flip side, indie artists are exploring a more un-exclusive, established sounds. SHURA has sprung up in a time of alternative pop crossover with the likes of Solange and Sky Ferreira tip toeing the line of mass appeal and indie credibility.

On new track 'Indecision', Shura looks to follow in the steps of these alt pop stars, with an accompanying video clip that plays on gender roles and sexuality.

The Moscow born songstress has been getting serious love from the music circuit with former single 'Touch' garnering over 5 million youtube views, a grand feat for such a new artist. Shura's making waves and  you can tell why - her music is a woozy blend of dream like 80s pop complimented by Shura's own aural entrancing vocals. I can see Shura fitting in neatly with the niche that the likes of Dev Hynes of Blood Orange has carved out alongside Kindess, Friends and  Robyn.

In the video clip, Shura tackles gender, in a bid to, as she told Dazed, tells " a moving story about a journey and change". The video clip shows our protagonist exploring two different identities, an apt allusion to the tracks subject matter.

'Indecision' is a grand candy coloured slice of pop escapism that definitely secures Shura's spot as one of the biggest up and comers to watch out for.
