Live Review: TORN ‘Night Hawk’

14 January 2015 | 12:22 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Swedish producer TORN has just dropped his latest original track titled 'Night Hawk'.

Swedish beat-maker and overall enigma TORN has been rather active over the last few months. With his remix of LABRINTH’s ‘Let It Be’ hitting #1 on the Hype Machine charts, it’s basically been uphill for the artist from there.

Content aside however, his latest single ‘Night Hawk’ goes above and beyond, encompassing elements of early to mid 00’s French house and techno, as well as showcasing his knack for clean beats and a big touch of funk.

It is after the early-morning synth properly hits that a Seinfeld-esque bass line comes in, and wow, that slap is a real killer. It later evolves into an electronic synthy-guitar like sound that moves in steps rather than leaps, and scales itself up and down the course of the track, changing it from a funk-laden bass fest into a complex mess of sounds and accents that make for one giant cocktail of sounds.

It’s clean but messy. It’s small in places, but it’s huge in places. It’s one genre but it’s another genre. TORN has created a track that brings all of these together for one big celebration of sounds.
